Roles and Responsibilities

In my role as an Indie Maker for Astral Projection Forum, I had a variety of responsibilities that included backend development, database management, learning a new programming language, and community building.

  • Backend Development:  I chose Ruby on Rails for server-side development and application logic.
  • Database Management:  MySQL was used for storing user data and forum content, and SQL views were utilized for creating complex home feed.
  • Learning New Programming Language:  As an Indie Maker, one of the challenges was learning Ruby on Rails from scratch and applying this new knowledge to build a full-fledged forum with advanced features.
  • Community Building:  I developed a niche forum for individuals interested in astral projection, lucid dreaming, meditation, and remote viewing, which required a deep understanding of these communities and their needs.
  • User Growth:  Another major responsibility was to grow the user base, which I successfully scaled from 0 to 500 in the first month, and eventually reaching 10k+ users.

Learnings

  • Learning New Language:  Self-taught Ruby on Rails from scratch to build this advanced forum.
  • Scalability:  Experience in scaling the user base of a platform from 0 to 10k+.
  • Community Building:  Understanding the dynamics of building a niche community online.
  • Database Management:  Leveraging SQL views for complex home feed creation.

Through my experience with Astral Projection Forum, I learned how to independently learn a new programming language and apply it to build a complex and advanced forum from scratch. I also gained firsthand experience in building a niche online community, and the process of scaling the user base from zero to thousands. This experience further solidified my skills and abilities as an Indie Maker, capable of ideating, developing, and launching a successful online platform.
